Estrogen dominance occurs when there is an imbalance between the stimulatory effects of estrogen and the tempering effects of the hormone progesterone. Most typically estrogen dominance occurs when there is insufficient progesterone production or an excessive exposure to estrogens. The symptoms of estrogen dominance include weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, depression, tiredness, sleep disturbances and decreased concentration.
